Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:  The BIG Event, created and led by University of Kansas students, began in 2011 as a day of community service for the University to give back to the Lawrence Community; and

WHEREAS:  Last year the BIG Event recruited 2,000 student, faculty, and staff volunteers to work at 200 local sites for one day of service; and

WHEREAS:  This year the BIG Event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013, and is aiming to recruit 4,000 student, faculty, and staff volunteers to lend a hand at 400 sites across Lawrence; and

WHEREAS:  The BIG Event connects the University to the wider community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert J. Schumm, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Saturday, April 13, 2013, as

“The BIG Event”

in Lawrence and urge all citizens to extend their support by signing up their homes and businesses as potential sites for BIG Event volunteers by March 31, 2013.
