Parks and Recreation Teamwork Awards
The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announced the recipients of the 2012 Tom Wilkerson Teamwork Awards at its annual holiday luncheon Friday, December 14. Please see the attached report for a list of award winners. Jim Beebe, park district four supervisor, was also recognized for more than 35 years of service to the City of Lawrence upon his retirement.
Baker University softball team assists Special Populations
The Special Populations Division of the Parks and Recreation Department offers both adapted and integrated leisure recreational activities and programs for all individuals with disabilities. The Baker University women’s softball team recently assisted with the monthly Special Population Division’s Coffeehouse by setting-up, decorating, serving food, cleaning up, dancing with attendees and assisting with Santa. Turnpike entrance roundabout landscaping
This fall the Parks and Recreation Department has completed work on the roundabout located at the North Second Street entrance/exit to Lawrence from the turnpike. Landscaping was installed and a new Lawrence sign was also mounted on the native Kansas limestone retaining wall to greet visitors to the city. The work was completed in cooperation with the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Please see the attached report for photos.
