Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the September 25, 2012 meeting:

Award Bid for Bid Number B1251, Project UT1208KW Chlorine Contact Basin Scum Skimmer Equipment Replacement to the low bidder CAS Constructors in the amount of $42,749.00 and authorize the City Manager to execute the contract.

Project Details

The existing scum skimmer troughs, located in the chlorine contact basins at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, have been in service since 1975. These units are operated to remove accumulated scum and other surface debris from the treated wastewater prior to its discharge to the Kansas River. The operating mechanisms have reached the end of their useful life and one of the units has failed.

Project Status

On September 18, 2012 bids were received from the following two (2) bidders. The bids were opened and the bids listed below publicly read aloud.

CAS Constructors                         $42,749.00

Blaze Mechanical, Inc.                            $66,585.00

Engineer’s Estimate                      $70,000.00

Department of Utilities staff has reviewed the bids and recommend awarding the bid to the low bidder CAS Constructors.  Based on past experience with the Department of Utilities, CAS is highly qualified to perform this work.

Anticipated Project Schedule

Award Bid                         September 25, 2012

Notice to Proceed               October 12, 2012

Project Completion             May 30, 2013

Project Funding

The project is funded in the 2012 Department of Utilities Operations and Maintenance budget.
