Please place the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at their November 22nd, 2011 meeting:

Background information:

Bids were received for the replacement of the Slate roof on the north side of City Hall. The slate roof is over 31 years old and has been repaired numerous times. We are replacing the slate roof with a slate look made of recycled rubber. The new rubber roof will be completely recyclable when it’s time to replace it. Historical administrative review was granted 10/24/11 and will be affirmed by the Historical Review Committee on 11/17/2011.

Based on discussions with Godard and Sons, an error was made in their calculation, and they did not submit their qualification statements. Staff is recommending to reject this bid.

Recommendation: Recommend the City of Lawrence award the contract to KAW Roofing & Sheet Metal Inc. for performance of this project for a Bid price of $59,530.00.

Action Request:  Authorize staff to award the roof replacement project to Kaw Roofing for a bid of 59,530.00. Funding will be from 400-3-3000.60-34, Capital Equipment Reserve.
