Advisory Board Meeting Minutes

November 8, 2011

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:  

Jana Dobbs, Chair; Joe Caldwell, Vice Chair; Kevin Loos and Andy Clayton

I.             Meeting called to order by Chair Dobbs

 

II.           Approval of the Oct. 25 minutes-- Motion to approve October 2011 minutes by Loos and seconded by Caldwell.  Motion approved. 

 

III.         Concerns of Board – Dobbs received an email from a citizen inquiring about whether the City has ever considered a spray park.  Shaw indicated that one is on the master plan for Burroughs Creek Park.    

 

IV.         Commission Meeting – Last minute thoughts – Shaw indicated the main objective is to summarize the study session and present to the commission the important highlights of why the recreation center would be an important asset to the City. 

 

V.           Burroughs Creek Playground dedication – November 4 – Hecker reported the dedication was last Friday and the turnout was really good. There were representatives from all of the groups that donated money for the playground.

 

VI.         Meeting with representatives from YMCA on November 14 – Dobbs indicated the YMCA is interested in collaborating with the City.  They want to discuss the possibilities.  

 

VII.       Lights –tennis courts LHS – Shaw reported he attended a meeting between the two groups that are in discussion regarding the lightening of the tennis courts.  It was determined staff will further explore the possibility of using an eight pole system, which would bring the lighting down to a high of 1.2 foot candle on the west side compared to an 11 foot candle with the previous plan. 

 

VIII.     Snow removal information – Hecker shared the schedule that our staff will be operating for snow removal for this season.

 

IX.          Staff reports

                                         i.    Recreation/Golf Revenue/Expense Report – Shaw reported on the recreational side, things are going great all of the projections seem to be accurate. The Winter/Spring Activity Guide has been released and we are now taking registrations.  Golf revenue has been running behind but we have seen some improvements since the rates have been lowered and weather has been cooperating. 

 

X.            Other: Dobbs received a letter from a local Girls Scout Troop regarding the lack of playground equipment at DeVictor Park.  Shaw indicated a sheer curtain has been installed over the displays at the Carnegie Building and is being utilized for wedding events and reservations.
