The CDBG Program is accepting applications for 2012. Over the last several years the City has received $500,000 in CDBG funds to install approximately 4 miles of sidewalk. For 2012 staff would recommend submitting two applications: Ridge Court Storm Sewer Improvements and Hazardous Sidewalk Repair.
Ridge Court Storm Sewer Improvements:
The current storm sewer system in this area is not adequate to handle storms greater than a 5-year storm (20% chance of occurrence per year). Previous flash flooding in this area caused structure damage to a duplex structure located at 2814 Ridge Court. As a temporary solution the property was acquired and an undersized detention basis was constructed. A new 48” diameter HDPE line is proposed to run along the back of the curb on the west side of Ridge Court. This new line will provide capacity for a 100-year storm (1% chance of the occurrence per year) and will alleviate the local flash flooding.
The estimated project cost is $100,000. City crews could complete this project. We are requesting $50,000 from the CDBG Program to roughly pay for the materials.
Hazardous Sidewalk Repair Program:
This program would identify sidewalks that are in extreme disrepair in low/moderate income areas and replace with new sections of sidewalk. It costs around $25/linear foot to remove and replace a 5 ft. wide sidewalk. A single section of sidewalk is typically 4 ft.; therefore, it would cost approximately $100 to replace a typical section. Low/moderate income families would not be able to afford this cost. The request would be for $50,000 which could repair about 2,000 ft., or 500 sections of sidewalk.
Action Requested:
Authorize staff to submit applications to the 2012 CDBG Program for Ridge Court Storm Sewer Improvements in an amount of $50,000 and Hazardous Sidewalk Repair in an amount of $50,000.
