Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The United States attaches great significance to the principles of international education and the role that education plays in building and strengthening mutual understanding with our neighbors around the globe; and
WHEREAS: In partnership with the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State, the State of Kansas and the City of Lawrence are celebrating International Education Week, November 14-18, 2011; and
WHEREAS: Celebrations and activities in Kansas and across the United States will provide a forum for promoting the benefits of international education and will demonstrate the strong belief that international education and exchange – public diplomacy – have a critical role in U.S. foreign relations in the new millennium; and
WHEREAS: Approximately 7,000 students from over 100 countries around the world are now studying in Kansas, and over 1,000 Kansas students will study abroad this year;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Aron Cromwell, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of November 14-18, 2011 as
in Lawrence and urge all citizens to join in this observance.
