RE:               Hobbs Park Ball Diamond Lights

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the November 1st, 2011, meeting:

Accept the bid provided by Musco Sports Lighting to replace the ball diamond lights at Hobbs Park.

Project Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to accept the proposal provided by Musco Sport Lighting for $84,500 to replace the existing ball diamond lights and poles in Hobbs Park. The existing wood poles and lights are over 30 years old. Three of the poles have deteriorated to the point that they need to be replaced for safety reasons.

With advances in energy efficiency for sports lighting, we feel it would be most cost effective to replace the entire lighting system on this field. It is estimated that the energy consumption will be reduced by approximately 38 Kw per hour of operation with the new system. This system will produces 50% less spill and glare light than our existing lighting systems and offers a 25-year maintenance free warranty.

Pricing for the project was acquired through a TIPS and TAPS Intergovernmental Cooperative Purchasing Agreement.

Project Funding

It is proposed that the $84,500 be funded from the Special Recreation Fund (216 Budget).

Action Request

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to accept the bid provided by Musco Sports Lighting for $84,500 to install a new lighting system on the ball diamond at Hobbs Park.
