RE: |
Jingle Bell Run 5K
|
Please place this item on the October 18, 2011, City Commission meeting agenda.
Race Day Timing Solutions, on behalf of the Arthritis Foundation, has applied for a temporary use of public right-of-way permit for the Jingle Bell Run 5K on Sunday, December 11, 2011. The race would begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Massachusetts Street adjacent to South Park, with runners staging on the street beginning at about 8:20 a.m. Participants would run in the northbound lane of Massachusetts St to 7th St, then turn east and run through East Lawrence until looping back onto Massachusetts St at 15th St (see attached map). Runners would then travel in one northbound lane of Massachusetts St back to South Park for the finish.
Staff is seeking City Commission approval of this right-of-way permit because the race will involve a rolling closure of the northbound lane of Massachusetts Street downtown from about 8:30 a.m. – 8:55 a.m. Parking on Massachusetts St would not be prohibited, although vehicles parked on the east side of Massachusetts St would not be able to leave as runners pass by. The police department will provide traffic control at necessary locations along the route.
ACTION: Approve a temporary use of public right-of-way permit for use of various city streets, including the closure of the northbound lane of Massachusetts St downtown from 8:30 a.m. – 8:55 a.m., on Sunday, December 11, 2011, for the Jingle Bell Run 5K.
