Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:  United Way of Douglas County provides community leadership by convening businesses, government agencies, community organizations and committed individuals in an effort to support non-profit organizations for the benefit of our citizens and the improvement of our quality of life;       and

 

WHEREAS:  United Way of Douglas County funds twenty-nine  organizations that provide health and human service programs addressing the Community Goals of Education, Health and Self Sufficiency in Lawrence and Douglas County; and

  

WHEREAS:  City of Lawrence and Douglas County residents raised more than $1,675,000 during the 2010 United Way Campaign to meet the needs of their neighbors; and

 

WHEREAS:  United Way of Douglas County’s campaign goal for 2011 is $1,700,000.  The employees of the City of Lawrence have set a goal of raising $43,000 to support the 2011 LIVE UNITED Campaign.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Aron Cromwell, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the week of October 9–15 as

 

“UNITED WAY WEEK

 

and urge all citizens to join in and actively participate in the United Way Campaign and all of its activities to continue making a difference in the lives of the citizens of the City of Lawrence and Douglas County.
