RE:               Fitness & Cardio Equipment

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the October 4th, 2011 meeting:

Authorize the purchase of new cardio equipment for the Community Building and Holcom Park Recreation Center using vendors from the 2011 State of Kansas joint purchasing agreement.

Project Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to use pricing from a State of Kansas joint purchasing agreement to purchase two treadmills and two elliptical machines for the Community Building and one treadmill and one elliptical machine for Holcom Park Recreation Center. This equipment will replace worn, malfunctioning equipment at each location. The current equipment is no longer under warranty and in need of significant repair and/or renovations to keep them operational. We would like the flexibility to negotiate trade-in pricing for the old equipment with the anticipated maximum expenditure of $29,000 to replace the equipment  

Project Funding

Funds for these purchases were budgeted in the 2011 Recreation Fund and in the 216 Special Recreation fund.

Action Request

Authorize the City Manager to issue purchase orders up to $29,000 for the purchase of new fitness and cardio equipment at the Community Building and Holcom Park Recreation Center.
