Re:	Street Name Change – Fireside Drive to Frontier Lane

Introduction

Recently we received a request from the owner of the Apartment Complex (currently under construction, located at Fireside Road and Trail Road) to change the street name of Fireside Drive to Frontier Lane. A few years ago, there was a massive fire that caused extensive damage to this property. This property is now being rebuilt (see attached Site Plan). The current property owner would like to change the name of the Fireside Drive to Frontier lane.

The new apartment complex is addressed off Frontier Road. There are no other properties currently addressed off Fireside Drive. There is no future plan for any other properties to be addressed off the proposed Frontier Lane.

Fireside Drive was formerly a short segment of Public Street extending from Frontier Road to Trail Road. During the site planning and re-plating process, most of the public right of way of Fireside Drive was vacated – as a result, approximately 100 feet of Fireside Drive is now public street (shown in blue in the attached sketch), and the remainder is a private drive / road (shown in red).

Staff Recommendation

This request has been reviewed by various city departments including Fire/Medical and 911 Dispatch. We also sent out letters to adjoining property owners for comments regarding the proposed street name change. There have been no concerns or comments of adverse consequences regarding this request. The proposed name change would not contradict or conflict with city’s street naming procedures/convention.

Staff recommends approval of this request to change the name of the Fireside Drive to Frontier Lane.

Action Request

If appropriate, adopt Ordinance No. 8654 changing the name of Fireside Drive to Frontier Lane.
