Rear Load Refuse Truck – Public Works – Bid#1133

Public Works Solid Waste requested bids for a rear load refuse truck.  Solid Waste equipment is replaced according to our equipment replacement schedule.  The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, mileage, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep.  We received fourteen bids from four vendors.  The difference in the bid amounts shown on the attachment is due to different combinations of the make of the chassis, the make of the packer, the transmission, and tires.  The eight low bids do not meet specifications due to the chassis that was bid.  They bid a conventional chassis and a low entry chassis was specified.    The ninth low bid from Downing does meet the required specifications.  All bids meeting specifications are highlighted on the attachment. 

Solid Waste is requesting to trade in unit 464, a 2003 Sterling rear load truck.  It is a high use, high maintenance truck that exceeds our criteria for replacement. The low bid from Downing offered $40,000 as a trade in price.  We have been monitoring trucks on Gov Deals and find they sold only one 2003 rear load truck.  It is a Sterling that sold for $10,885.  Kelly Blue Book trade in value for the truck is $30,000.  This purchase was approved in the 2011 budgeting process.

Award bid for one rear load refuse trucks for Public Works Department to Downing Sales and Service for $136,610.00 (Public Works/Solid Waste)
