RE:	Closure of 100 block of E 8^th on 08/13/11 for Sandbar Birthday

The Sandbar (17 E 8^th St) has requested permission to close the 100 block of E 8^th Street from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 14 for the Sandbar Birthday Party. The event would feature live music, food vendor(s), and a beer garden area. The attached permit application includes statements of support from adjacent businesses. The city would provide meter bags and barricades to close the street.

Possession and consumption of alcohol on the right-of-way is generally prohibited, unless the City Commission adopts an ordinance exempting an area from that prohibition. The attached Ordinance No. 8646 would temporarily allow the possession and consumption of alcohol on the 100 block of E 8^th Street during this event.

ACTION:      Approve a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit allowing the closure of the 100 block of E 8^th Street from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011, to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011 for the Sandbar Birthday Party.

Adopt on first reading, Ordinance No. 8646, allowing the possession and consumption of alcohol on the 100 block of E 8^th Street from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011, to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011 for the Sandbar Birthday Party.
