Request purchase one mini track skid steer loader for the Street Division.

The Public Works Department is requesting authorization to purchase the following equipment from the existing Huston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) government contract.

Justification:
This piece of equipment will have year round applications and during the winter will be used primarily to aid in snow / ice removal on public sidewalks that are typically either snow packed as a result of street clearing operations or impossible for adjacent property owners to maintain due to city operations. Examples include the sidewalks along the intersection of 6th and Iowa, 9th St. near the retaining wall at Emery St., the sidewalks at the intersection of 23rd and Iowa. These are a few of the locations that this piece of equipment will be utilized. In the past, these areas were cleared by hand or neglected all together. This will add one more element to our snow and ice removal plan that will enhance quality of life and service to the public. Additional benefits for purchasing this equipment are that with the proposed attachments it can be used to access areas that were previously worked on with hand tools or rented equipment due to inaccessibility. This is a small compact walk behind loader (see attached photos) that will give one person the ability to access smaller more confined work areas in a much safer and efficient manner. This unit will be maintained by Public Works but available for many uses to other departments eliminating their need to rent this type of equipment in the future. Project Funding:
Funding for this purchase will come from 505-3-3910-6005 (storm water fund) $14,116.50 and 205-3-1000-6005 (capitol equipment reserve fund) in the amount of $14,116.50 for a total purchase of $28,233.00.
Action Request:
Authorize the Public Works Department to purchase one mini skid steer loader from the HGAC contract from Bobcat Company in the amount of $28,233.00.
