RE:               Bid date for Computer Fiber Installation.

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the June 7th, 2011, meeting:

Set a bid opening date of June 21, 2011, for the purchase and installation of a new computer fiber line to service South Park Center and the Community Building.

Project Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to bid the purchase and installation of new computer fiber that will run from the Law Enforcement Center to South Park Center and The Community Building (see attached map).

Future plans call for the relocation of the Parks & Recreation Administration Office to South Park Center in the summer of 2012. The current computer network connection at this facility does not have the ability to run at the needed speed for these offices. By feeding the Community Building at the same time, we can eliminate the $230 monthly service fee that is being charged on our current computer network line.

Project Funding

It is estimated this project will cost approximately $25,000.  Funding for this project is proposed to come from the Sales Tax Reserve Fund.

Action Request

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to set a bid opening date of June 21, 2011, for the purchase and installation of a new computer fiber line to service South Park Center and the Community Building.
