RE: |
Storm sewer line relocation (In-House) |
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the May 3, 2011 meeting:
History & Project Description
Recently the area bound by New Hampshire and Massachusetts Streets on the east and west, and 15th and 16th Streets on the north and south had a new sanitary sewer installed (refer to attached map). This was a sanitary sewer main rehabilitation by the Department of Utilities (Project No. UT0905CS). In order for this project to be constructed, the garage at 1545 New Hampshire was demolished. The resident agreed to the demolition and corresponding utility easement dedication with the caveat that they could reconstruct a new garage. Normally this would not present any problems except that an existing storm sewer system traverses the property at a relatively shallow depth. The shallow depth of the storm sewer prohibits the construction of an appropriate foundation for the new garage. In addition, the current storm sewer does not lie within a dedicated easement. Given these factors it was deemed appropriate to abandon the existing storm sewer line and relocate the new alignment within existing street right of way.
