Project PW1102: 6th Street – Folks Road to Monterey Way

Geometric Improvements, Milling, Overlay and Pavement Marking

Set Bid Date

Please include the following item on the City Commission Consent Agenda for consideration at the April 19, 2011 meeting.

Project Description

The project scope is to widen 6th Street 6’ feet to the north and south to provide a center turn lane between Folks Road and Monterey Way.  Included in the project is a mill and overlay of entire roadway, replacing sidewalk with 10’ wide shared-use path on south side and reconstruction of driveway approaches.  The raised median in front of Hy-Vee will be removed and the current right-in/right-out access to the Hy-Vee gas station will be converted to a full movement commercial driveway.

Traffic will be maintained with at least one lane eastbound and westbound throughout project, and access will be maintained to all adjacent properties.  Construction is anticipated to take 6 to 8 weeks and utility relocations will occur prior to construction.

Project Funding

Engineering design and preparation of plans and construction documents were performed in-house by city staff.  The project will be funded with General Obligation Bonds from Resolution No. 6892.
