February building permits

The Building Safety Division issued 128 building permits in February, with total construction for the month valued at $3,730,381.  Total permit fees assessed for the month were $32,660. There were ten permits issued for new residential construction in February, including six single-family dwellings, one duplex, and three multi-family dwellings containing 16 dwelling units.  Thirteen permits were issued for new residential projects in February last year, all of which were for single-family dwellings. Social Service Agency Funding Applications for 2012 are now available

Social Service Agencies received notification that application materials for 2012 funding are now online at www.lawrenceks.org/budget.  The deadline for applications is April 29, 2011.  The Social Service Funding Advisory Board will review the applications and make recommendations to the City Commission as part of the annual budget process. 

 

City featured in League of Kansas Municipalities publication

The City of Lawrence’s recent American Planning Association designation as a “Great Street in America” was highlighted in the January 2011 Kansas Government Journal.  Another brief in the publication highlighted the city’s revised sustainability web site.

 

Local Economic Development Partners produce 2010 progress report

The City of Lawrence, Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and Douglas County produced a 2010 Economic Development Annual Report to highlight some of the success stories and efforts of local organizations to stimulate the economic health of Lawrence and Douglas County.  The report focuses on the efforts of the major economic development agencies operating in Lawrence and Douglas County and highlights the progress made in business retention, expansion and attraction in 2010.

 

The report is available online and will soon be available in a print version through the City Manager’s Office, Chamber of Commerce, BioScience and Technology Business Center and County Administrative Offices.
