Shot Put Start Time 6 p.m.

Our plan (see attachment) would be to convert the 100 block of East 8th Street and the intersection of 8th & New Hampshire into a shot put competition venue for 10 world class shot put throwers. At 6 a.m. on the day of the event, a frame would be constructed with the help of the City’s Street Department in the permitted area to outline the throw area and filled with a mixture of sand and crushed rock (provided by Kansas Athletics) . The throw area would be 87 feet long with a width of 8 feet at the throwing circle on 8thStreet and fanning out to 68 feet at the other end (onto New Hampshire). Along the sides of the throwing area, a buffer zone of 3 feet would be created for safety reasons followed by the spectator viewing area. The length of Shot Put competition would be 2 hours. Again, the Lawrence Street department would coordinate the clean-up of the shot put throwing/landing area to ensure that the streets are properly cared for.
Other promotional activities such as live radio remote, food vendors and product giveaways may take place within the permitted area, and we also are requesting a temporary alcohol permit is requested for this area.
