Fire Flow
2006 Edition of the International Fire Code – Fire Flow Requirements for Buildings, Appendix B, Section B105.1 requires a minimum of 1000 GPM at 20 PSI for single family and duplex developments. Hydrants on River Ridge and Riverside bounding the area in question provide 1437 – 1755 GPM at 20 PSI residual. It is probably realistic that this flow can be maintained thus meeting the minimum code requirements.
Fire Hydrants
Currently, the City has hydrants on the south boundary along River Ridge Road, as well as hydrants on the east (particularly on Riverside Drive) that tie into N 1770 Road.
2006 Edition for the International Fire Code – Fire Hydrant Locations and Distribution, Appendix C, Table C105.1 requires hydrant spacing of 500 ft. Currently, there are no hydrants available in the property. Placing hydrants at the middle of blocks on E. 1310, E. 1318, E. 1326 and E. 1338 Roads, as well as, the intersections of those roads and N. 1770 Road plus one at the intersection of River Ridge and E. 1338 Road would provide spacing of approximately 545 feet for the mid block hydrants and 350 feet for those at intersections. The Appendix allows a variation of up to 10% for spacing where existing hydrants are used as part of the requirements therefore 545 feet would be acceptable.
Preferably the fire flow and hydrants would be in place prior to annexation since without them the properties on N 1770 Road would be as much as 1,265 feet from the nearest accessible hydrant.
Response Maps
Attached are response maps (4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Minute) based on our current station locations including current street infrastructure. These maps have been updated from the previous 2007 response maps that were used for Agency Accreditation and 2007 street network.
