RE:	Request from Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission to Issue a Request for Proposals for Arts Economy Study

Please place the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for February 8, 2011:

Authorize the issuance of a Request for Proposals for the Arts Economy Study as requested by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission.

Background:

In December 2010, the City Commission approved $5,000 in funds to be carried forward from 2010 to the 2011 Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC) budget for the purpose of working on a project to address needs and enhance the sustainability of the arts in Lawrence. 

The LCAC, at its January meeting, voted to request the City Commission authorize issuance of a Request for Proposals for a study on the Lawrence Arts Economy.  The LCAC wishes to identify needs, current and future impact of the arts, and utilize the information to formulate a strategic plan.  The LCAC plans to utilize up to $5,000 for this purpose.  It is anticipated the study would be completed during the first half of 2011.

Authorize the issuance of a Request for Proposals for the Arts Economy Study as requested by the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission.
