December 7, 2010 Agenda Item – Award Bid for Kaw Water Treatment Plant Sludge Collector Drives Replacement

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the December 7, 2010 meeting:

Award Bid No. B1064 for the Kaw Water Treatment Plant Sludge Collector Drives Replacement to CAS Construction, LLC in the amount of $97,150.00 and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract agreement.

Project History/Status

The Kaw Water Treatment Plant currently has five basins that have sludge collection equipment.  This equipment is now over twenty years old and has needed repair several times.  The current plan is to replace two of these drive mechanisms per year for the next two years and one in the third year.  These sludge collector drives are currently in use at the Kaw Water Treatment Plant and have exceeded their serviceable life. Utilities staff have developed bidding and construction documents for the purchase and installation of two new drive mechanisms for this location.

On October 26, 2010 the City Commission set a bid date of November 23, 2010.  Two bids were opened; one from Midland Contractors, Inc. for $202,550.00 and one from CAS Construction, LLC for $97,150.00.

Project Funding:

The project will be funded from the 2010 Operations and Maintenance budget 501.7.7220.6034.

Action Request:  Staff recommends award of bid No. B1064 for the Kaw Water Treatment Plant Sludge Collector Drives Replacement to CAS Construction, LLC in the amount of $97,150.00 and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract agreement.
