RESOLUTION NO. 6908

A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE TAKE CHARGE ENERGY CHALLENGE

WHEREAS, the Governing Body has set a goal to improve energy efficiency and sustainability of both the city’s facilities and the Lawrence community; and

WHEREAS, energy efficiency efforts bring benefits for our local economy, environment, and citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Governing Body is ready to accept the Take Charge Energy Challenge for Lawrence with Kansas University, committing to reducing our community’s energy use during the period of the Challenge, and with a goal of saving more energy than Manhattan and Kansas State University during the same period.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LAWRENCE, KANSAS, TO ACCEPT THE TAKE CHARGE ENERGY CHALLENGE AND TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS:

1.      Partner with Westar Energy, the Kansas State Energy Office, and the Climate & Energy Project to assist the businesses and residents of Lawrence in reducing their energy use.

2.      Partner with the University of Kansas on the Challenge- providing energy efficiency benefits to both the campus and community.

3.      Save money for our citizens by helping them reduce their energy costs through education and awareness.

4.      Take charge of our energy future, improving our local economy and environment.

ADOPTED by the Governing Body of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, this 2nd day of November, 2010.
