RE:               Fitness & Weight Equipment – Community Building

Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the October 26th, 2010 meeting:

Authorize the purchase of new fitness and weight equipment for the Community Building using vendors from the 2010 State of Kansas joint purchasing agreement.

Project Description

The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department requests Commission approval to use pricing from a State of Kansas joint purchasing agreement to purchase new fitness and weight equipment for the Community Building. The current equipment in the facility is over 25 years old and is becoming very difficult to keep in good working order due to the unavailability of replacement parts. We would like the flexibility to negotiate trade-in pricing for the old equipment and the purchase of up to $25,000 of new equipment  

Project Funding

This purchase was budgeted in the 2010 Recreation Fund  

Action Request

Authorize the City Manager to issue purchase orders up to $25,000 for the purchase of new fitness and weight equipment at the Community Building.
