Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:  The City of Lawrence is widely considered one of the Midwest’s most active arts communities, and has been named among the “Top 100 Best Small Arts Towns in America”; and

WHEREAS:  The National Endowment for the Arts has ranked Lawrence among the cities in the U.S. with the highest percentage of professional artists in its work force; and

WHEREAS:  The month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and

WHEREAS:  The Lawrence community has outstanding arts and cultural resources and the arts are an important aspect in the lives of our citizens;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2010 to be

“ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH”

in Lawrence.
