Carnegie Window Rehabilitation/Replacement |
The renovation of the Carnegie building at 9th and Vermont is proceeding with an anticipated completion for later this year. During the renovation project, the deteriorated condition of several windows has become increasingly apparent and the need for either replacement or rehabilitation/repair work evident. Window replacement/repair was not included in this major rehabilitation project, primarily because some window work occurred in earlier repair work on the facility in previous years. Additionally, the current construction work has provided an additional opportunity to view previous termite damage and other issues concerning windows which were not evident when the current project was designed and bid. The project architect, David Dunfield, Treanor Architects, and city staff reviewing the window conditions believe that now is the best time to complete the necessary window rehabilitation/replacement project on the deteriorated windows in order to protect the finished interior work and ensure an orderly transition to full use of the facility.
The project architect has prepared a specifications package for this project. A change order with the current project contractor is not being sought because we believe this can be an isolated project without general contractor overhead. Funding for the window rehabilitation/replacement will come from the City’s capital improvement reserve fund.
Recommended Action: Establish October 26, 2010 as the bid date to receive bids for selected Carnegie building window rehabilitation/replacement.
