September 28, 2010 Agenda Item – Award Contract for Clinton Water Treatment Plant Dust Collector Replacement, Project UT0920CL

Please include the following item on the City Commission Agenda for consideration at the September 28, 2010 meeting:

Award Bid No. B1028; Project UT0920CL - Clinton WTP Dust Collector Replacement to CAS Construction, LLC. in the amount of $85,900 and authorize the City Manager to execute a contract agreement.

Project History/Status

Currently several chemicals are used at the Clinton water treatment plant in the process of clarifying and disinfecting water for public use. Two of these chemicals, lime and carbon are delivered in a dry (powder) form. In the process of transferring these products from the delivery truck to the storage bins chemical dust is produced, this dust is collected by equipment designed for this application and returned to the storage bins. The purpose of containing this dust is for obvious health and environmental reasons. This dust collection equipment currently in use at the Clinton water treatment plant has been in service for thirty years and has exceeded its serviceable life.

On August 17th the City Commission approved a bid date of September 14th. Four bids were opened, from PCI, Grimm, CAS Construction, and Midland.  See attached bid tabulation.

Project Funding:

The project will be funded from the 2010 Operations and Maintenance budget 501.7.7210.6034.
