2009 – 2010 Lawrence waterline improvements
The Department of Utilities and general contractor RD Johnson have completed the first phase of the 2009 -2010 watermain rehabilitation project. The project included the open trench installation of approximately 3,400 lineal feet of 12” Ductile Iron Pipe and directional drill installation of approximately 1,950 lineal feet of 8” restrained joint PVC pipe as shown on the attached map. In coordination with the watermain construction RD Johnson also completed the sections of the previously contracted Public Works Sidewalk Gap program along the east side of Iowa St from Yale Rd to University Dr.RD Johnson was given notice to proceed on February 15, 2010. 80 working days were allowed per the contract and began to accrue March 23, 2010. An additional 43 working days were granted throughout the course of construction due to construction change orders, weather, and material testing delays. The project met the requirements for substantial completion as of September 03, 2010, a full week ahead of schedule and prior to the home opener of the University of Kansas football season.
The project was awarded to RD Johnson for the amount of $840,665 and change order 1, to provide extra depth of bury in anticipation of the reconstruction of Iowa Street, was executed in the amount of $65,381.45 for a total project cost of $906,046.45. Outstanding change orders and adjusted final quantities result in a current net deduction to the project of $28,586.17 for final constructed cost of $877,460.28.
