RE:

Oread Hotel Tailgate Event Follow Up

As a condition of approval of a right-of-way permit for the Oread Hotel tailgate party events, the City Commission asked for a staff report following the first event on Saturday, September 4, 2010.

On Saturday I took my family to the event around 5:00 p.m. (kickoff was at 6:00 p.m., and the Oread event was scheduled to run from 4:00 p.m. until one hour after the game ended. The attached photos of the event area were taken between approximately 5:00 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., and are in chronological order.

Pedestrian traffic outside the fenced off event area appeared to be light. As can be seen in the photos, pedestrian and vehicular activity on 12th Street west of the hotel was not heavy at the time. Signage regarding pedestrians in the street, and regarding alcohol in the event area, can be seen in the photos. Some vehicular traffic was present but was slow moving at the time I inspected the area.

Fire Marshal Rich Barr met with Oread management a couple of times last week to go over plans, and an inspector with the Fire Medical Department checked the event set up on Saturday. The set up was according to the plans and met the Fire Medical Department’s requirements. As of the writing of this memo the Fire Marshal had received no negative reports regarding the event.

Oread Hotel management met with neighbors this morning to discuss any concerns that might have arisen regarding the event. Nancy Longhurst sent the attached message regarding that meeting.

At this time, the Oread is not planning on holding an event on Saturday, September 11, and is planning to notify adjacent properties and the city prior to the next event they hold.
