RE: |
Jingle Bell Run
|
Troy Fitzgerald is the organizer of the Jingle Bell Run, a 5K run benefitting the Arthritis Foundation, and has requested a Temporary Use of Public Right-of-Way Permit allowing the use of various streets (see map) in the downtown, Old West Lawrence, and Oread neighborhoods on the morning of Sunday, December 12, 2010. The run would require the brief closure of Massachusetts Street from North Park Street to 7th Street at the beginning of the race. Runners would be staged between North Park Street and 11th Street from approximately 8:20 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., the race would start at 8:30 a.m. and the slowest runners should be off of Massachusetts by 8:50 a.m. There is no need to prohibit parking on Massachusetts Street and the street closure will only last as long as runners are present. The police department will control traffic at intersections as necessary along the race route. All pre- and post-race activities will be taking place at the Community Center near 11th and Vermont.
ACTION: Approve a Temporary Use of Right-of-Way Permit for the use of various streets for the Jingle Bell Run, including the rolling closure of Massachusetts Street downtown from approximately 8:20 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010. Parking on Massachusetts Street will not be affected.
