RE: Bid date for DeVictor Park Trail extension
Please include the following item on the City Commission agenda for consideration at the September 7th, 2010, meeting:
Set a bid opening date of September 21, 2010, for the DeVictor Park Trail extension.
Project Description
The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Eileen Horn, the Sustainability Coordinator for the County, submitted and were awarded a $15,000 Sunflower Foundation grant for additional concrete trail construction at DeVictor Park. The Sunflower Foundation promotes the health of Kansas citizens by providing grant assistance for community projects that promote walkable communities. They also give special emphasis to projects that provide walkable routes to schools. The DeVictor Park concrete trail system fit nicely into the funding criteria established by the Foundation (map). This is a 50/50 matching grant program with the maximum award being $15,000 for trail construction.
The project must be officially bid to process the grant contract.
Project Funding
It is estimated this section of the trail will cost $35,000-$40,000. Funding for this project will come from 3 sources. $15,000 Sunflower Grant, $15,000 from the Special Recreation Budget (216), and the remainder coming from the Sales Tax Reserve.
Action Request
The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department staff requests approval from the City Commission to set a bid date of September 21st, 2010, for the DeVictor Park Trail extension.
