Aviation Advisory Board Minutes

June 28, 2010

Richard Haig called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m.

 

1.     Review and approval of May 19, 2010 meeting minutes

 

The May 19, 2010 Board Meeting minutes were reviewed.  Stan Sneegas moved and Tom Kern seconded the motion to approve the minutes.  Motion passed by a vote of 5-0.

 

2.     Airport Manager’s Report

 

Parachute Complaint – Letter to FAA presented to the Board.

Master Plan – Suggested members for the Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) Candidate List were given to City Staff for consideration.

KU Project – Dr. Mark Ewing’s email and attachment were reviewed.  City Staff will present it to the FAA.

T-Hanger Discussion (Attachment)

City Staff and Gary Fish prepared revised financing options.  The Board reviewed the request by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) for the City of Lawrence to respond to the call for aviation project grants due July 16, 2010.  The grants fund projects that are consistent with the Kansas Aviation System Plan (KASP).  The Board believes it is in the City’s best interest to pursue a grant for the construction of 20 more T-hangers at the Lawrence Municipal Airport.  Stan Sneegas moved and Bob Newton seconded the motion for the City Commission to authorize the submittal to KDOT of a proposal to construct 20 additional T-hangers at the Lawrence Municipal Airport under the Kansas Airport Improvement Program (Summer 2010) Pilot Program with a 50/50 cost share for the estimated $1.4 million total cost.  Motion passed by a vote of5-0.

3.     FBO Report

The Collings Foundation Visit was discussed.  Tom Kern moved and Tom Rainbolt seconded the motion for the Airport Manager to approve the Collings Foundation activity at the airport with the understanding that the City would be added as a named additional insured under their Liability Insurance policy during their visit July 14-16, 2010.

 

4.     Open House – Tentatively planned for October 9

Various assignments were made supporting the planning for the airport Open House.

5.     Miscellaneous

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:37 p.m.
