RE:

Consent Agenda Item:  Authorize City Manager to Sign Facility Use License  between the City and Ad Astra Area Aquatics for use of the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center for competitive swim practice

Please consider placing the above referenced item on the City Commission Consent Agenda July 20, 2010.

Ad Astra has previously requested use of the Indoor Aquatic Center for competitive swim practice.  On April 27, 2010, the City Commission allowed 90-day temporary use of the pool at the non-profit rate while the organization establishes not-for-profit status.  Ad Astra has re-organized as a non-profit entity and has provided the necessary support documentation to the Parks and Recreation Department.

Also at the April 27 meeting, the City Commission directed staff to work with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to review and revise policies regarding facility rental by for profit and not-for-profit organizations for future consideration by the City Commission.  Staff and the Advisory Board have been reviewing and revising existing documents and anticipate providing something for City Commission review yet this summer.

Staff requests that the City Commission authorize the City Manager to sign the Facility Use License Agreement, which provides utilization of the Indoor Aquatic center through December 31, 2010.
