RE: |
Street Division Set Bid Date for Asphalt Material Only Purchase July 13, 2010 Agenda Item |
Background:
The Street Division is requesting approval to bid the purchase of 1,425 tons of hot mix asphalt. The materials will be used for the repaving of 13th Street between Massachusetts Street and Connecticut Street, and Oread Avenue from 13th Street to 300’ from the intersection of 12th Street. Oread Avenue, as part of the Oread hotel project, received a thin 1” lift of asphalt. Upon completion of the hotel the city was to place an additional 2” of asphalt on the street. This in-house work is part of our approved 2010 Street Maintenance Program. Six Hundred (600) tons will be used to repave portions of Oak Park Cemetery which was approved by the City Commission on July 6, 2010.
Justification:
Street Division crews play an integral part of our street maintenance program. Each year they participate with various projects performing a variety of tasks. These two streets are short sections of pavement and can be resurfaced by in-house staff as effectively as contracted at a lower price. The work will be performed over the next several weeks from the bid award date. The work in Oak Park Cemetery will be completed with Parks and Recreation funds later in the fall as road work slows down.
Project Funding:
Funding will come from the approved 2010 Street Maintenance Program Budget: Account 001-3-3000-4508, General Fund ($41,250.00), for 13th Street and Oread Avenue; and the Parks and Recreation Budget: Account 212-4-4800-4209, ($30,000), for Oak Park Cemetery, Project No. PR1026. The total estimated cost for these materials is $71,250.00.
Action Request:
Authorize the City Manager to set a bid date of July 27, 2010 for 1,425 tons of hot mix asphalt.
