RE:	Main Trafficway Improvements General Obligation Bonds Resolutions 6891 and 6892

Please include the following item on the City Commission consent agenda for consideration at the July 13, 2010 meeting:

As presented in the 2011 Capital Improvement budget the City will complete the following projects:

6^th Street from Massachusetts to Folks Road.  This project will include $400,000 in KLINK funds.  The project will mill and overlay 6^th Street from Massachusetts to Iowa and Monterey Way to Folks Road.  Also included will be the widening of 6^th Street from approximately HyVee (4000 W. 6^th Street) to Folks Road to construct a center turn lane.

Bob Billings Parkway from Kasold Drive to Crestline Drive.   This project will reconstruct the two westbound lanes of Bob Billings Parkway.  This section of street is quickly deteriorating due to base failures and groundwater issues. 

Both projects will be designed “in house” by the engineering staff and anticipated to be bid in the spring of 2011.  The City only issues bonds one time per year and, therefore, these projects need to be authorized in order to have sufficient funds to complete the improvements.

Action Requested:  Approve Resolutions 6891 and 6892 authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds for main trafficway improvements, specifically:  6^th Street from Massachusetts to Folks Road in an amount of $900,000 and Bob Billings Parkway from Kasold Drive to Crestline Drive in an amount of $1,300,000.
