Arts Center Street P’Arty

 

 

The city received a temporary use of right-of-way permit application for the closure of a portion of the 900 block of New Hampshire on Saturday, June 12, 2010 for the Lawrence Arts Center Street P’Arty. The event would celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Arts Center with live music, games, vendors, demonstrations and other art related activities. The event would close the 900 block of New Hampshire in front of the Arts Center (see attached map) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The actual event would take place 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

 

Access to the parking garage would be maintained via the southernmost entrance on New Hampshire as well as the entrance on 9th Street. The street would be used for vendors and a stage for live music. The street would be blocked with movable barricades but the applicant would maintain adequate width in the westernmost lane for fire apparatus access to the garage in case of emergency. Signs indicating that the street is closed to through traffic would be posted at 9th and New Hampshire and a few parking meters on each side of the street will be bagged in order to create a turnaround area for vehicles.

 

The event would also use a portion of the vacant lot on the southeast corner of 9th and New Hampshire, directly north of the Arts Center. The applicant has applied for a Special Event Permit from the Planning and Development Services Department for the use of that lot.

 

The applicant does not anticipate the need for additional trash barrels or a dumpster. No alcohol will be sold, possessed, or consumed on the right-of-way as part of this event. The event would require a temporary reroute of one bus, as well as barricades and 20 meter bags to close a portion of the street.

 

ACTION:      Approve a temporary use of right-of-way permit allowing the closure of a portion of the 900 block of New Hampshire Street for the Arts Center Street P’Arty from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010.
