RE:	Alcohol Beverages at South Park (east side)

Staff received a request to allow possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on the east side of South Park for wedding ceremony.  Specific information about the request is included below.

Megan Beyers-Wedding Ceremony at South Park Gazebo

We received a request from Megan Beyers for her wedding ceremony, to allow the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on June 26, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Ms. Beyers has reserved South Park (east side) for June 26^th with the Parks & Recreation Department and anticipates that 150 – 200 people will be attending.  The possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on public property, including South Park, is generally prohibited by City Code. However, City Code section 4-105(E) allows the City to exempt, by ordinance, specified City property from the prohibition of alcoholic beverages on public property. Ordinance No. 8524 authorizes the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages on June 26, 2010 in South Park from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., provided such possession and consumption is otherwise pursuant to the Code of the City of Lawrence, Kansas and the laws of the State of Kansas and the rules and regulations of the Parks and Recreation Department.
