Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

 

WHEREAS:   Since October 19, 1975, the University of Kansas’ student-operated radio station, KJHK-FM 90.7 has provided the University of Kansas and the City of Lawrence with vital and timely non-commercial programming; and

 

WHEREAS:   For thirty-four years, University of Kansas students have volunteered long and loyal hours toward the operation of KJHK and the aspiration of attaining excellence in all respects; and

 

WHEREAS:   KJHK has successfully trained thousands of students in both interpersonal and professional skills and has provided a student perspective on news, public affairs, and culture, as well as offering access to KU men’s and women’s athletic events; and

 

WHEREAS:   KJHK has contributed immeasurably to help create and maintain Lawrence’s status on the leading edge of popular culture, and has consistently and uniquely provided a fertile environment for creativity; and

 

WHEREAS:   KJHK has received national awards for its cultural and professional contributions to the medium of college radio; and

 

WHEREAS:   The University of Kansas’ “Sound Alternative” continues to lead where others follow;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike Amyx, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Friday, May 7 as

 

“KJHK Day”

 

and urge all citizens to take proper cognizance thereof.
