Two (2) 20 yd Rear Load Refuse TruckS – Public Works – Bid#1015

Public Works Solid Waste requested bids for two 20 yd. rear load refuse trucks.  Solid Waste equipment is replaced according to our equipment replacement schedule.  The equipment replacement schedule is based on age, mileage, hours of use, and cost of maintenance and upkeep.  We received seventeen bids from six companies.  The difference in the bid amounts shown on the attachment is due to different combinations of the make of the chassis, the make of the packer, the transmission, and tires.  The five low bids from Downing Sales & Service did not meet specifications due to hopper opening, tailgate overhang and tires; however the sixth low bid from Downing did met the required specifications of the bid. 

Solid Waste has two rear load refuse trucks that meet the criteria for replacement. The low bid from Downing offered $34,000 and $32,500 for these trucks as a trade in price.  We have been monitoring trucks on Gov Deals and find they have only two trucks comparable.  They are selling for $27,000 and $10,000.  This purchase was approved in the 2009 budgeting process.

Recommendation Action:

Award low bid for two (2) 20 yd. rear load refuse trucks for Public Works Department to Downing Sales and Service for $199,232.00.  (Public Works/Solid Waste)
