RE:	Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Kansas regarding the sharing of expenses for the local match required for the transit services contract authorized with Olsson Associates

Please place the following item on the consent agenda for January 12, 2010:

Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Kansas regarding the sharing of costs to meet the local match requirement for the transit services contract with Olsson & Associates for coordinated transit routes. 

Background:

In December 2008, the City Commission authorized the issuance of a Request for Proposals for a transit implementation specialist to examine the transit routes of KU and the City. 

In January 2009, the City Commission authorized the City Manager to execute a contract with Olsson Associates to perform the transit services necessary in response to the RFP.  The bulk of the $99,593.74 contract with Olsson was paid by the Kansas Department of Transportation.  The local match requirement of $15,918.75 was to be shared equally by the City and the University.  At the time that the Olsson contract was executed the attached Memorandum of Agreement with KU, agreeing to equally share the local match, was drafted.  However, we have recently discovered that the agreement was not formally authorized, nor executed.  It would be appropriate at this time for the agreement to be authorized and executed as the Olsson services are nearing completion.

Action Requested:

Approve the Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Kansas regarding the sharing of expenses for the match for the transit services contract with Olsson Associates and authorize the City Manager to execute the Agreement.
