Subject City of Lawrence Representative for the Northeast Kansas Regional Homeland    Security Council

The Northeast Regional Homeland Security Council examines current response capabilities on a regional level and measures those against the desired target capabilities outlined under the Homeland Security Presidential Directive – 8.

The Council identifies priorities and recommends projects for grant funding that involves the twenty-three county area.

Council regulations specify that the membership shall include one representative from each county and city of a first class governing body who has voting rights to serve a minimum of two years.  Class One cities include Topeka, Lawrence, Emporia, Atchison and Junction City. 

Captain Pattrick was appointed by the City of Lawrence as their representative to the Council.  He has been an active member and knowledgeable participant of the Council and has served the Council admirably.  His term expires January 1, 2010.  Prior to his term, Chief Bradford was the representative.

The City of Lawrence representation is an important component of the Northeast Regional Homeland Security Council.  It would be appreciated if the City Commission would appoint a representative to the Council as soon as feasible.  After the appointment has been made, please let me know and also mail a letter that will need to be signed by the Mayor to the Council.  The Council’s reorganization will occur January 20, 2010 when all appointments will be effective.
