RE:     ICS Overview for Elected Officials

A NIMS course designed especially for elected officials is G402.  This course is offered in a classroom setting only.  A class will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, in the Lawrence City Commission Meeting Room on the first floor of City Hall (6 E. 6th Street).  The class will begin at 6:30 p.m. and take approximately two hours to complete.  There is no test with this course.  Certificates of completion will be given to the participants.

In most jurisdictions, responsibility for the protection of the citizens rests with the chief elected official.  Along with this responsibility, by virtue of their office, these people have the authority to make decisions, commit resources, obligate funds, and command the resources necessary to protect the population, stop the spread of damage, and protect the environment.

Any personnel who may be involved in the planning, response, or recovery phase of an emergency or incident is required by Federal law to have ICS training.  Completion of ICS training meets NIMS compliance guidelines.  NIMS compliance is a requirement to receive EMPG and State Homeland Security Grant funds.

To ensure we have enough materials, please RSVP to me before November 13, 2009.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
