CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Week ending November 20, 2009

Bowersock Dam geotechnical investigation

A geotechnical investigation was performed and completed during the week of November 8th to assist in the determination of sheet pile lengths for the Bowersock Dam repairs. Fortunately only 60% of the budgeted borings within the Kansas River were necessary. Furthermore, geology was mapped for the entire width of the Kansas River just upstream of Bowersock Dam, which will aid in future design work for the southern third of the dam. Sheet pile lengths have been submitted to the structural steel mill for fabrication. Once the sheet piles have been rolled they will be coated with a bitumastic coating and delivered to the site mid to late December. Construction for the temporary bridge over the spillway is underway, with most of the bridge foundation completed.  Please see the attached photos.
