Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:       The citizens of Lawrence and Douglas County have benefited from a combined two hundred-twenty four years of service from the Bert Nash Mental Health Center, Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, and the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, occupants of the Community Health Facility; and,

WHEREAS:       On November 8, 1994 the citizens of Lawrence and Douglas County voted to approve a one cent sales tax in part to support the construction of the Community Health Facility; and

WHEREAS:       On November 13, 1999 the Community Health Facility opened its doors to the public; and

WHEREAS:       Over the past ten years through the Bert Nash Mental Health Center, Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, and the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, 391,511 people have been directly served by this facility;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Chestnut, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, along with my fellow City Commissioners, hereby extend our deepest appreciation to the community for its public support of community health services as expressed by the willingness to build the Community Health Facility.
