WHEREAS:      Early on the morning of October 8, 2009, Lawrence Journal-World newspaper carriers Phil and Alex Victor noticed smoke coming from the roofline of the Aberdeen South apartment complex; and

WHEREAS:      the Victor’s quickly responded to the smoke by calling 911 and then proceeded to knock on residents’ doors to alert them of the fire danger; and

WHEREAS:      the Victor’s rapid response was part of an effort to ensure tenants escaped the fire safely; and

WHEREAS:      the Victor’s selfless act is a reflection of civic duty and the desire to help their community;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Chestnut, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby recognize

For their courage and invite all citizens of Lawrence to be inspired by their act of kindness.
