Lawrence, Kansas
WHEREAS: The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence has provided significant leadership in the area of community involvement in the education and well-being of our youth and is grounded in the principle that quality after school programs are key to helping our children become successful adults; and
WHEREAS: Lights on Afterschool!, a national celebration of after school programs will be held in Lawrence on October 29, promotes the critical importance of quality after school programs in the lives of children, their families, and their communities; and
WHEREAS: Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence serves 1,400 Lawrence youth a day which accounts for nearly 1/5 of all Lawrence elementary youth; and
WHEREAS: Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence has sustained safe, affordable after school programs for Lawrence youth through partnerships with the City of Lawrence, Douglas County, the United Way of Douglas County, the Douglas County Community Foundation and many other agencies within Lawrence.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Chestnut, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim Thursday, October 29, 2009 as
