Chair called the meeting to order at 4:42 p.m.
Review and approve minutes from July 23, 2009
After review, Wyatt requested adding language after the sentence …to continue the review of the changes. “since Chaney had not received his books yet” Jarboe made a motion to approve the minutes as changed. Mohr seconded the motion. Pass 4-0.
Begin discussion of 2009 code review.
Wyatt opened up the discussion of the changes and asked for comment from board members.
Chaney stated he had concerns with Table 307.2.2 and condensate pipe sizing. He was concerned with the pipe sizes being too small when ran for a significant amount of length or when several condensate drains are tied together. He stated there was no way to clean out plugs from the smaller condensate drains without using compressed air and also if multiple systems are connected together there was no practical way to clean them out. He suggested increasing the size, limiting the length of the drain lines or adding a valve on multiple systems to aid in cleaning out plugged drains.
Mohr agreed and stated when he designs a system he always specifies larger condensate drain lines than what is necessary to reduce plugged lines and maintenance costs. He said he has a modified chart he uses when sizing the drains and would be happy to bring it in and maybe rework the table to accommodate the larger sized drains.
Wyatt agreed that would be a good idea. No action was taken.
The board had a brief discussion about Chapter 4 and Mohr stated the ventilation tables were outdated according to the ASHRAE standards and were now current with more energy efficient standards.
Staff mentioned that in Chapter 5 the domestic clothes dryer exhaust has been modified increasing the length limitation from 25’ to 35’ to be more in line with dryer manufacturers recommended lengths. There was also a similar provision to the local amendment regarding a plaque being placed in the dryer area stating the concealed dryer duct length.
Chaney replied there may be a possibility of removing the amendment but still liked the language that was locally inserted as compared to the changes in the code and suggested using the local amendment language. The board agreed. No action was taken.
Miscellaneous
Chaney inquired about the Gumby’s pizza hood and asked if anything is going on with it.
Staff replied that Gumby’s was working on compliance.
Motion to adjourn made by Jarboe, seconded by Mohr, pass 4-0. Meeting adjourned at 5:48 p.m.
