Union Pacific Depot roof replacement completed

The Parks & Recreation Department recently completed installation of a new roof on the historic Union Pacific Depot (see attached photos). The new roof replaces the one that was installed in 1996 when the building was restored. The project cost was $29,849 and the contractor for the project was Mesler Roofing.   

 

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant update

The attached memo outlines progress to date and timelines for EECBG projects. Projects to be funded with the $858,600 in grant funds include the Sustainability Coordinator position, HVAC and lighting upgrades at the Lawrence Public Library, and conversion to LED lights along Massachusetts Street.

 

Fire Department staff honored by state association for river rescue

Members of the Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical Department were recently honored with the Tom McCaughey Award by the Kansas State Fire Chiefs Conference. The award was presented on Thursday, October 9, 2009 in Manhattan, KS.  Eight members were presented with the award in “recognition for an act of heroism above and beyond the call of duty” for their courageous efforts in rescuing a 14-year-old from the Kansas River, who had slipped into the swiftly running water and was stuck under a large tree branch. Honored were Captain Sandy Herd (retired), and Firefighters Kevin Fussell, Troy Gourley, Will Hallagin, Ryan Kelly, Leo Leiker, Greg Murray, and Mark Parker.
