Proclamation

Lawrence, Kansas

WHEREAS:   The Lawrence Alliance and the Centro Hispano Resource Center have combined resources to sponsor the First Annual Festival of Cultures on Sunday, September 27, 2009 in South Park from noon to 5:00 p.m.; and

WHEREAS:   The Festival of Cultures was created to celebrate the ethnic and cultural diversity of Lawrence, which is a community with many cultures, races, and nationalities; and

WHEREAS:   The Festival promotes an appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity while strengthening relationships within the Lawrence community; and

WHEREAS:   The Festival is a free, family-friendly community event featuring dance and musical performances, contests, kids activities, a parade of international dress, cultural displays, vendors, food, arts and crafts, and more; and

WHEREAS:   The City of Lawrence recognizes and appreciates the diversity of its citizens; and

WHEREAS:   The Festival’s significant contribution to local tourism and the valuable cultural exchange is of great benefit to the Lawrence community; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Chestnut, Mayor of the City of Lawrence, Kansas, do hereby proclaim September 21 – 27, 2009 to be

“FESTIVAL OF CULTURES WEEK”

In Lawrence and encourage the citizens of Lawrence to participate in this event celebrating the many cultures that reside in the City of Lawrence.
